I need your help!

In light of being young and undeclared, I have decided to take the upcoming spring semester off to travel.  In light of being young and broke, I want to road trip within the United States.  I have always had a certain degree of wanderlust but my recent college experience has left me with a greater desire to experience the world, apposed to sitting in a dorm reading about it.  So I’m taking a leap of faith and going.  With this being said I feel as if I should have at least a brief idea of where I’d like to go.  & I want you help! I would love to hear about your travels, and places you think I should see and experience!

Please please please I would love to hear your stories and ideas 🙂

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

This past summer I was lucky enough to try stand up paddle boarding.  It was an amazing experience.  Not only is it a work out, but I got a nice tan too! At an affordable cost of $50 for the whole day.  Paddling around the lake in Naples, Maine, with my family was the best day I could have asked for.  It was easily one of the highlights of my summer.  While out on the lake many passer-byers seemed impressed, and said that it looked hard.  I was nervous to try it out at first because my balance is less than good.  But let me tell you, paddle boarding was easy! My sister and I went as far as to attempt hand stands! The photos, even though goofy, show a happiness I can’t put into words.

If you ever get the chance to try stand up paddle boarding, do not, i repeat DO NOT let it pass you by.

Dank Coffee

I wouldn’t say I’m stingy with my money, but I certainly don’t blow it.  Bargain hunting has become a common theme in my life.  I would like to share with ya’ll some of the good deals I have discovered!  This morning my sister and I made a great discovery.  McDonalds coffee!

Don’t be quick to judge! I was hesitant at first, McDonalds doesn’t have a good reputation for quality food.  But this coffee surprised me.  It was delicious.   Not only did the sweet 130 calories of carmel ice coffee satisfy my taste buds and  my craving for caffeine.  It was also easy on my wallet at a measly $1!  I will no longer pay $2.25 for Dunkin Doughnuts coffee.  $1 coffee’s are where it’s at.

Happy Summer ya’ll!

Today is the first official day of summer, and I find myself craving something more.  Not that I’m not content in my own life, I’m just becoming somewhat lackadaisical.  So I am making this list as a summer to do list slash what I want to become.  A new, improved me.

Long board.  Not only do I want to become an avid long-boarder  I want to be able to create  a beautiful long board.  I attempted to hand craft one a few years ago, it came out decent. It looks fairly nice, minus the slanted tip.  It is also very slow.  I would love to improve on my previous model, or start from scratch again.  I want to engulf myself in the casual long boarding life style.  There’s just something so appealing to me about someone coasting down the road with such balance and ease.  Plus there are zero emissions  and no more buying overpriced gas!

Reading.  I want to get lost in books.  I want to experience someone else’s life and views, even if only for a few hours.  What better way to spend a lazy summer day than lounging on the beach soaking in the sun, and expanding your knowledge?  I can’t think of anything right now.

No more preservatives.  It is hard to be happy, when your body doesn’t feel happy.  I want to control my diet to the point where I only eat local fresh foods.  I am lucky enough to have access to all the fresh fruits and vegetables I can dream of at the farm stand I work at. This summer I plan to take complete advantage of this.

This will be a start to a good summer!  I plan to add to this list as time goes by.  Do you have any suggestions for me?

Homemade Lotion

Lotion is a must-have during the summer months.  Not only is this the best weather to show off your long legs, but it’s also the time where your skin will become sun drenched and dry.  And who wants to spend all that money of expensive products from aloe, to lotions that claim to do this or that?  Not me!  I set out to make my own, completely organic lotion.  Ingredients included:

  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E
  • 2 tablespoons shea or cocoa butter
  • * essential oils optional

*I would recommend using essential oils, I didn’t when I made mine and the natural fragrance was quite interesting.  If I were to do this again I would use about 30 drops of essential oil.

The process to make this lotion is quite simple.

  1. Combine all ingredients in glass
  2. Place glass in a medium size sauce pan with a couple inches of water on medium heat
  3. Place a loose fitting lid on the jar
  4. Stir/ shake occasionally
  5. Once completely melted pour into jars

A little bit of this lotion goes a long way.  At first it may appear that it is too greasy on the skin, but it should set into your skin and leave it feeling soft and revitalized within minutes!

Detox

It’s a good feeling to detox every once in a while, especially when you’re an avid drinker.. The detox drink I opted for is very simple to make.  It is a simple “detox water”. The ingredients include:

  • Water mellon
  • Lemon
  • Mint leaves
  • Water

Each of these ingredients are not only tasting but they do contain detox benefits!

Watermelon helps the body flush out toxins because it contains the organic compound citrulline, which is an amino acid that has been shown to help the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of ammonia. Ammonia comes in external forms, but is also a by-product of the proteins our bodies are burning up constantly for energy, and it’s quite damaging to our cells

Lemons helps stimulate and regulate the digestive track (which is why it’s so helpful with constipation, heartburn and gas), stimulates bile production, and thins out bile, which allows it to flow more freely. Bile is produced by the liver and ends up in the small intestine to break down lipids (fats) that we’ve consumed.

Mint leaves are a nice refreshing flavor to add to your drink. On top of that, it can help you digest more effectively, improving the flow of bile from the liver, to the gallbladder, to the small intestine, where it breaks down dietary fats. Mint also helps relax cramped up stomach muscles.

 

After you have gathered these ingredients cut them up and place into a container of water.  I choose a mason jar because it was big enough to hold two servings. (And I think they’re pretty 🙂 )  For best results leave setting for at least a day so the fruits can really infuse the water for this tasty detox drink!

Strawberry Daiquiris

What’s a girl to do when she finds herself with an abundance of fresh-picked local strawberries? Make strawberry daiquiris of course! The ingredient are simple:

  • 1 cup of strawberries (the fresher the better 🙂
  • 1/2 a lime
  • Bacardi Rum
  • ice

In the photo there is also a mixer, but we oped out of using it when we tasted how good the real strawberries were!

Mix ingredients in a blender and put the mint on top, and enjoy! I sure did
